using object masks in kintsugi

Recommended Posts

Hello

Thanks again for the software.  A couple of my colleagues are testing it out and we see a lot of potential, both with photogrammetry generated mesh, but also as an addition to our structured light-scan data sets (Anyone using GOM/ZEISS software we now have a script to export all TRITOP images along with their camera positions,yaw.pitch.roll for easy import into metashape.  Bit work-in-progress but happy to share).

The issue comes when we try and project images from both sides of an object -  we get the support from side 1 or 2 projected over.

Is there a way to feed Kintsugi object masks from our project?  Would applying them to the alpha channel of a png work, or would this create other challenges?

Kintsugi should read in the alpha channel of a png.  We could potentially support other workflows for importing masks -- that was asked in another thread -- but that's not currently a feature in the software.  For now, if you're able to put the masks in the alpha channel, that would be the best workflow to test that out for the time being.

We had a 2nd model recently that had bad alignment without masking. We were able to export PNGs with alphas that solved the problem, but for high res images that is a bit painful (PNG saves VERY slowly and are large). Ideally if there could be a check-box/preference to optionally read masks from the Agisoft file when using that workflow if possible would be a very nice quality of life improvement alternatively if kintsugi could read a folder of Black/White mask files named the same or read from TIFF files with alpha channels.
