ecanderson 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2015 Hello I am a beginner using RTI and I purchased ball bearings (between 1mm and 5mm) to use with a macro lens as I am taking photographs of small cut marks on bones. These ball bearings are chrome coloured, is it necessary that the ball bearings be black for use with RTI? If so, would colouring them with a permanent marker or glossy paint be sufficient or is it necessary to get ball bearings which are black to begin with? Thank you, Erik
Dennis 9 Report post Posted June 10, 2015 Hi Erik, Like you I am a beginner. But so far I have not found it necessary to darken the ball bearings for my work doing highlight method micro-RTIs. The software seems to capture the highlights on bright metal just fine. I'd be more concerned about any coating attempt creating surface irregularities or other unevenness on the bearing. ecanderson 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2015 Dennis, Thank you so much for your quick response. I'm glad to hear bright metal does not seem to have any negative effects. Thanks again, Erik
Rhys12 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2015 I just tried it for the first time on a suspected gravestone and used two silver Christmas ornaments, which seemed to work all right. I made a few mistakes in placement, however. Now I need to go back and do a more thorough job.
