mgts24 Posted June 13, 2015 Report Share Posted June 13, 2015 I am getting ready to do an RTI shoot in a museum, and discovered to my horror that since I upgraded to Yosemite (Mac), I can no longer shoot tethered. The OS doesn't seem to see my Canon EOS D6. And while my MacBook Pro can see the WiFi from the 6D, EOS Utilities does not. Anyone else having these problems with Yosemite and come up with a workaround? Not being able to shoot tethered is a real setback. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
cdschroer Posted June 13, 2015 Report Share Posted June 13, 2015 I will say that we just got a new MacBook pro with Yosemite, and I did a shoot last week tethered to a Canon 6D with no problems. Since this is a brand new machine, I installed the EOS utility from scratch, and so it is the latest one. First thing I'd check is whether you have the latest. I do know that this combination works - I'm running 10.10.3. I was running tethered with a USB cable, rather than using the wifi. We use a variety of cameras, and not all have wifi, so our standard setup is cabled. You could try that. I have used wifi to talk to my phone and take pictures - more for photogrammetry than RTI We also have a purchased copy of DSLR Remote pro from Breeze systems. I just did a quick check over there, and they don't seem to be offering a mac version any more. Good luck! cdschroer Posted June 13, 2015 Report Share Posted June 13, 2015 Oh, and I'll add - we use a 15ft USB cable. The ones that come with the cameras are no where near long enough. You can't go over 16ft without having a powered cable. I'd also recommend using a bongo tie (found in the RTI kit) or similar to tie the cable off to a tripod leg to prevent stressing the USB connection in the camera. Jon Posted June 15, 2015 Report Share Posted June 15, 2015 We tether our Canons (5D2, 5D3 and 6D) and Nikons (D300s, D90) to our Android tablets using DSLR Controller (Canon-only) or QDslrDashboard (Canon, Nikon and some others). qDslrDashboard also has Mac and Windows client software; both work over USB cables or wirelessly (natively with the 6D; via software mods to the inexpensive TPLink MR3040 routers for the other cameras). They're the inexpensive equivalents of the commercial [http://www.camranger.com]CamRanger[/url]. Zoltan (developer of qDslrDashboard) has tested his current version on MacOS 10.8, 10.9 and 10.10. On the EOS6D, whenever the WiFi is enabled, file transfer via the micro USB socket is disabled. When I switched the WiFi off the cable worked fine. Thanks everyone for your responses.
